XC flying camp at its best!
with Roger Oechslin from MeteoScout and Stelios Makrovasilis from Olympic Wings
from 13.07. to 20.07.2019
Olympic Wings offers a mid summer flying week focused on XC flights for experienced pilots who want to fly scenic Greece and enjoy airtime.
We will be moving through selected flying sites that give the best cross country flying between the areas of Mt Olympus and Mt Voras in central and north Greece.
We will support you with the best local knowledge on the sites. Conditions, area and flight planning, along with the necessary flexible organization on accomodation and retrievals.
Moreover you will be flying with local XC pilots.
Olympic Wings long experience allows us to further give support to pilots with advice and pointers for equipment, flying the mountains and flatlands, flying with clouds and maximizing the use of wind and thermal systems.
We will offer clear and detailed briefings on the area, possible xc routes, score flights, local and broader flying conditions as much as mental support.
The two instructors will support you with your thermalling techniques and your first steps into XC if you wish.
Roger Oechslin will be supporting your flying with his expert knowledge on meteorology.

Several flying sites:
We will fly at sites that best match towards the weather conditions and XC potentials.
‘At’ and ‘in between’ the two high mountains.
Mount Olympus is the highest mountain range in Greece, parallel to the sea, with its highest peak Mytikas at 2.917 m. The south western area of the mountain has fantastic cross country and thermalling conditions.
The large flatland area of Thessaly expands towards the south offers a big potential for open distance and many triangle XC flights. Southeast in direction to the city of Larissa, Northwest crossing the river of Aliakmonas and West towards Deskati mountains. A wonderful flight is the cross towards the Aegean Sea on the eastern side of Olympus with a beach landing.
Mount Voras is a high mountain of the northest parts of Greece that belongs also to a mountain range. It is the 3rd highest mountain in Greece with it’s summit Kaimaktsalan at 2.524 m. adjacent to more high peak mountains.
Cross country flights go south towards Mt Olympus and beyond, further direction to the towns of Grevena and Kalampaka.
